Meet Nyema

Hey, Cutie! Thank you for visiting the LuckedOut website and showing support for the zine. It means so much.

My name is Nyema, I am 18 years old, and I am the founder of LuckedOut Zine! I have always had a huge affinity for graphic design, crafts, and various styles/aesthetics. Whenever I flipped through a magazine in my childhood, I took note of the font, memorized the flashy images, and admired the colors. In recent years, I have noticed that the creativity in most graphic design is lacking. So, I want to take the steps to rekindle the lost relationship between media and whimsy that was so prevalent in the 2000s and earlier teen pop culture. I strive to have fun with every task, no matter how tedious, and show that even the most outwardly mundane things can be fantastical.

I founded LuckedOut in May 2025 when I was 17 years old. The zine was originally titled Nyema’s Monthly Favorites. A monthly digital publication showcasing my favorite things from the corresponding release month. In July of 2025, I changed the name to LuckedOut, and while the zine kept the same topic, I wanted it to be broader. Not just covering my favorites from that specific month, but my favorite things and interests in general. Because of that change, the zine went from publishing every month to publishing after every few months.

It was quite the rebrand in a way, but I really loved what I was creating, and receiving support from the zine community always motivated me to keep going.

Our Mission

Through LuckedOut, we only hope to connect with people who share my interests and build a community. We mainly strive to recognize the ever-changing interests of the youth as a whole (what we call “trends”) and really slow things down and analyze them. Music, fashion, media, and all the things that we, the youth, consume is art. Yet, we don’t take the time to really appreciate them. That is our goal with LuckedOut; to really dedicate time and bring attention to the things that are or were once popular but forgotten in no more than a year. Everything that we consume offers so much more than what meets the eye, and we want to share that idea with the world.
